New ThinkPad Edge Series Laptop Models
The Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E430 is Lenovo's replacement for the Lenovo E420 in April 2012. The Lenovo ThinkPad E430 will be powered by the new, more efficient and more powerful Intel Ivy Bridge processor family. Although this is the plan of Lenovo the ThinkPad Edge E430 will also have the Sandy Bridge processor as an option to the Ivy Bridge. The ThinkPad Edge E430's 14" screen features a High Definition 1366 x 768 widescreen resolution, LED AntiGlare and Midnight Black. This laptop is offered in an all black finish typical of a ThinkPad. In terms of style, the ThinkPad E430 looks a lot like the E420 as well, with a curved edge design but still all black finish typical of a ThinkPad. There will be an option for a red color lid if black just isn't your style.
Some facts regarding the Intel Ivy Bridge processor include a Tri-gate transistor technology (less than 50% power consumption at the same performance level as 2-D planar transistors), PCI Express 3.0 support, Max CPU multiplier of 63 (57 for Sandy Bridge), RAM support up to 2800 MT/s in 200 MHz increments, Intel HD Graphics 2500/4000 with DirectX 11, OpenGL 3.1, and OpenCL 1.1 support, the built-in GPU is believed to have up to 16 execution units (EUs), compared to Sandy Bridge's maximum of 12, a new random number generator and the RdRand instruction, codenamed Bull Mountain, Intel Quick Sync Video, DDR3L low voltage for mobile processors and multiple 4K video playback. Overall, these stats translate to a 5% to 15% increase in CPU performance and a 20% to 50% increase in integrated GPU performance.
